Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
