Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his success. He admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
