Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors in the world. While betting on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha/8 and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
