Howard Lederer lived in a family of five in which he liked taking part in different card games at a young age. The real advancement in his skills happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently compete against each other. Howard had access into some of the foremost minds in chess. Howard Lederer also assisted his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she would always be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard Lederer moved to Vegas in 1993 and participated in money games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
