Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
