In holdem, the first step is to get the game started, and for this the competitors put out a certain sum of money. ‘Posting the blinds’ is the commonly used saying for this play. In the next step, the croupier shuffles the cards and deals out 2 cards face down to every player. A normal deck of fifty two playing cards is used. Then there is the initial sequence of betting. This round is normally referred to as a "pre-flop".

After the first betting round, the first card of the deck is discarded. This thrown away card is the "burn card", and this is done to ensure there is no dishonestly. The next three cards are then revealed face up on the poker table. These cards are known as ‘the flop’. Now comes a 2nd round of wagering, after that the croupier burns a further card and deals 1 more card onto the poker table. After this, players can employ the 6th card to create a five-card poker hand.

Another round of wagering follows, and in a good many types of poker, here is where the bet size doubles. There is an additional round of tossing aside a card, and a last placing of a card face-up on the table. This is known as the "river". Players can now make use of any of the five cards on the board, and/or the two cards that they hold, to assemble a 5card poker hand.

To wrap it up there is a further round of wagering. After that, all the remaining players begin to show their hands. This is describe as the "showdown". Beyond a doubt, the bettor who has the best hand wins. When competitors have even hands a sharing of the winnings is used.

Hold’em is a very easy game to pickup, but to acquire knowledge one needs a large amount of practice.
